What is information technology engineering?

Information Technology (IT) is the application and real life use of of technology in order to address and to solve business problems.

This field of engineering uses computers, networks, and other technical infrastructure both hardware and software, to deal with and manipulate information/data.

Difference between the two engineering branches.

Here is a table which explains the difference between the two engineering branches in detail.

S.no Computer science engineering Information technology
1. Computer Science deals with the development and testing of software and software systems Information Technology deals with the development, implementation, support, and management of computers and information systems.
2. Computer Science involves working with mathematical models, data analysis and security, algorithms, and computational theory. Information Technology works with hardware like RAM, CPU and software like operation systems, browser, etc
3. This will establish the computational principles that are the like foundation of all software and services we are using. Their work is usually seen behind data transfers and storage, security, and more IT professionals make sure that computers and systems work well for real people like companies hospitals, and government bodies,
4. To summarise this deals with developing software and components and more theoretical stuff To summarise this deals with applications and real-world uses of computers and more practical and application-oriented work

Many people are confused and think both computer science and information tech are both same things like 2 sides of the same coin but there is a slight difference in them which you learned above and thus in the job opportunities as well CS graduates have more job oppurtunieis than IT students because of the nature of the work of both, you will learn more about the career options of the both below.

Let’s first take a look at the eligibility criteria for computer science engineering then move forward with the information technology.

What are the eligibility criteria for computer science engineering?

The eligibility criteria to take under graduation in Computer Science Engineering is as follows,

  • Students must take PCM subjects and pass their 12th board with 50% marks in their 12 exams from recognized universities and 75% if they want admission to top engineering colleges like IIT, and NIT.
  • You can get admission in top engineering colleges through JEE exam into IIT, IIIT, NIT, and in bits Pilani through BITSAT exam,

At the same time if you want to take Bachelor of Science and computer science branch then you might not have to write any entrance exam and

you can get admission based upon your intermediate marks percentage and you might also have to clear an examination to get admission into specific Universities and colleges.

And if you want to get admission into computer science engineering and get your post graduation then you should attend and

clear GATE exam to get a good college for your post graduation and you should also have your under graduation from computer science engineering.

What is the eligibility criteria for information technology?

The eligibility criteria to take information technology in your under graduation is also same as computer science engineering.

If you want to do BTech then you should have maths physics and chemistry as your core subjects in your intermediate level and

you should take your intermediate education from a reputable college and have to pass the intermediate exam with more than 50% in exam and

also pass the entrance exam like JEE to get admission in the top engineering institutions in India like IIT.

Career scope & salary In both branches;

Future potential of both branches.

And if you want to know which engineering branch has a good future then let me state that both computer science engineering and information technology have a good future because

they are both related to technology and computers and computers are not going anywhere anytime soon, as a matter of fact every business and industries needs a computer to grow.

there is very less chance of AI replacing the CSE and IT industry engineers as a matter of fact AI can’t replace programmers and coders because it requires creativity, problem solving skills which AI cannot acquire.

As a matter of fact according to bureau of labour statistics the average job growth of computer science & IT industry is around 22% between 2020-2030 which is much higher than any other job growth in USA and if the number of jobs are increasing in America you can see a similar trend in other countries as well.

And if you want to stay relevant and keep earning money in future then you need to keep your knowledge and skill updated with changing technology.

Which is best CSE vs IT?

After learning all of this information about the two fields, there is no clear-cut answers which divide and say that one is better than the other.

You can choose either one depending upon your interests, skills, etc.

CS grads require to work on creating programs, software, algorithms, applications through coding, and teamwork, discussions whereas IT people work on using existing tech in business and growing the business, to solve business issues and problems.

Personality-wise, those more suited to independent work behind a desk may find themselves drawn to computer science while those who enjoy hands-on work assisting others may find more fulfillment in IT.

I personally prefer information technology because it is more focused on applications of knowledge rather than the theory aspect.

With that said let’s end the article.
